National Conference on SNG’s pilot on SWM in Punjab, KP
A National Conference on Sub-National Governance’s (SNG’s) End-To-End Pilot for strengthening Solid Waste Management in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on March 03, at Pearl Continental, Lahore that was attended by Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust CEO Sumaira Gul.The aim of this conference was to share the methodology and approach of these pilot initiatives with wider stakeholders, to discuss issues and challenges in implementation of service delivery plans prepared by SNG and also, to consider options for scaling these up in both provinces. Environment Day: Saving water resources through IRRCs stressed
Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust celebrated Environment Day on June 06, 2022 in collaboration with Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST). The theme for the Environment Day was ‘Only one earth living sustainability in harmony with nature’. AHKMT CEO Sumaira Gul in a couple of interviews with Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television in connection with World Environment Day shared her views about the impacts of climate change and how the issue can be addressed. She pointed out that environmental pollution and global warming was a challenge for the whole world including Pakistan.Sharing her thoughts, Sumaira Gul was of the view that Pakistan was one of the top ten countries badly affected by the adverse impacts of climate change. She elaborated her thoughts how impact of our actions are resulting in climate change. She also presented a number of activities (suggested solutions) how environment can be improved.

Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust attended Environment Mela at Ayub National Park,Rawalpindi on March 19, 2022 organized by National Cleaner Production Center Foundation (NCPC). Engaging School Students to Reduce Plastic
Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust (AHKMT) is working with few schools of Islamabad to reduce plastic at household and community levels. Plastic pollution is caused by the accumulation of plastic waste in the environment. Negligence is the main cause. In fact, it is estimated that 80% of marine litter comes from land. This pollution comes mainly from household waste, which is poorly recycled, dumped in landfills or abandoned in nature. This waste is carried by the winds, pushed by the rains into sewers, streams, rivers, and finally in the oceans.‘Plastic Free Pakistan’ is a campaign of AHKMT that aims to measurably reduce plastic pollution in communities across Pakistan.
