AHKMT partnership with Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Rawalpindi

Sustainable development has forced developing countries to have a focused look at their waste management system including educational institutions. Pakistan is at the brink of disaster. Being the 5th most climate risk country, institutions in Pakistan needs to revisit their operational mechanisms and learn from the countries that are emerging out of the challenging structures and stepped into the path of self-sustainability. Bangladesh is one such example which is progressing day and night. An era of knowledge economies and technological advancement poses different challenges that demand the incorporation of a participatory approach of development.
Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Rawalpindi approached Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust (AHKMT) for collaboration in developing a syllabus on solid waste management. AHKMT agreed to provide technical support on a Solid Waste Management (SWM) project to FJWU team. The team of FJWU has been provided training on the process of initiating the project in the community. AHKMT has developed an indigenous model of SWM and has devised a module covering four major areas i.e. theoretical, research, commercialization to innovation.
It was agreed mutually that short courses will be launched by the FJWU in collaboration with AHKMT during the vacations and gradually the module will be included in BS Programs from 3rd semester. The formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is in the finalization process.
Both of the organizations are quite comfortable with each other and see the opportunity to collaborate on sustainable basis.
