IRRC is a physical facility where organic waste is scientifically processed and converted into compost (Organic Fertilizer) which makes 10% by weight of the total organic waste used in a cost effective way. Solid Waste Management Vision 2047
Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust has envisioned a 25-year progressive plan in the area of solid waste management to turn Pakistan into a responsible country having solutions in the area of solid waste management on the centenary celebrations of the country in 2047. The plan is based on creating a national hub in collaboration with partners including different friends (institutions) and replicate best global practices in area of solid waste management in Islamabad. This will be a pilot project which will be reflective of various dynamics AHKMT has found in different areas of Pakistan. There are also a number of benefits this national hub could have by doing waste management, such as saving the money on supplies, reducing the current waste disposal costs, and in the long term this step may avoid the environmental burden caused by producing and disposing unnecessary materials. e-guard (Company)
Solid waste collection and disposal system The Environmental Guard (e-guard), a profit-oriented business enterprise was formed on May 9, 2009 for providing household garbage collection service to the local communities. It provided solid waste management services to local communities at affordable rates. In 2012 UN-HABITAT joined the party, and in their collaboration the waste collection system was replicated in six major cities of Pakistan. However, in 2013 the issue of proper disposal of solid waste emerged as line companies and government functionaries started raising questions of huge dumps of garbage disposed at the limited landfills in the cities where e-guard was serving. AHKMT kept on striving to address the situation and found out a successful waste addressing model already practiced in Bangladesh. Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Association formerly known as Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust is a non-profit organization (NPO) working in the fields of sanitation and solid waste management across Pakistan for over twenty-two years. It was established to spread out community development philosophy of renowned and legendary social scientist, Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan. Besides expertise in handling solid waste and sanitation models, AHKMA also has the grasp at conducting research studies on solid waste management and imparting trainings to the people from different walks of life.
