IRRC B-17, MPCHS, Islamabad
In the Multi Professional Cooperative Housing Society (MPCHS), a one of its kind housing societies of the federal capital, AHKMT set up an IRRC on 5 kanal land in 2018 which was launched in 2020 catering to the needs of around 4000 households and handling the capacity of 3 tons garbage. The 5-kanal IRRC has 12 composting boxes, four maturing boxes and a proper rainwater harvesting system. A proper office for staff, storeroom, workers washrooms and parking lots for vehicles are present on the premises of the IRRC. The project has incurred a cost of Rs11 million and the construction work has been finished within a span of one and half years. AHKMT with the collaboration of e-guard has been given the task of running the project for three years and after making it sustainable, the IRRC will be handed over to the management of MPCHS.
IRRC Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In 2019, Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM) and Dr. Ahktar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust (AHKMT) did a feasibility study for establishment of one of the first IRRC in district Mardan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Province. For designing, construction and operationalization of the IRRC in Mardan, financial and technical assistance was provided by Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) Pakistan Office. This project
was operationalized in March 2020. The model aims to demonstrate long-term and sustainable solid waste management solution for the KP province. This model was designed by a group of academic researchers and professionals from National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad.
IRRC Jinnah Garden, Islamabad
In FECHS-Jinnah Garden, a Cooperative Housing Society along Islamabad Highway and between Naval Anchorage and Gulberg Green, AHKMT set up an IRRC at 2 kanals of land provided by the society where IRRC and its team have been handling around 5 tons of waste on daily basis making the lives of the society residents quite easy.
IRRC Sakrand, Sindh
Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sakrand Town Committee for bringing improvement in solid waste management in Wards 4, 5, 7 and 8 in Sakrand town in January 2017 and in February 2017 started work on IRRC in the locality on land provided by the Town Committee which catered to the needs of around 4,000 households.
IRRC G-15, Islamabad
In Jammu & Kashmir Cooperative Housing Society (JKCHS) in Sector G-15, Dr Akhtar Hameed Hameed Khan Memorial Trust set up an IRRC in 2015 where the facility catered to the needs of around 3,000 households and yielded around 275 kilograms of compost through management of 3 tons of garbage.
Two New projects in pipeline
IRRC in Haripur
Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust in collaboration with Unicef, Commissionarate of Afghan Refugees, and Haripur District Government conducted Solid Waste Characterization Study at an Afghan Refugee Village in Haripur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in June 2023. While keeping in view the quantity of organic waste found in the area, Dr Akher Hameed Khan Memorial trust has recommended to establish IRRC which will improve solid waste management in target community and will help to make the water reservoir better as currently the waste is going in Tarbela lake. It will be a three tons daily green waste capacity IRRC initially which would be later expanded to five tons capacity for the area. A three tons capacity IRRC will produce 300 Kgs organic compost daily of price PKR. 6000/-.
Waste Collection and Processing Unit in D-17
Dr Akhter Hameed Khan Memorial Trust’s sister organization e-guard and management of Margallah View Housing Society D-17, Islamabad have reached a Memorandum of Understanding for waste collection and garbage processing under Zero Investment principle for seven year term in July 2023. The management of the housing society has given a 2 kanal land on site of Sewerage Treatment Plant to e-guard for waste processing.
