Solid waste collection and disposal system
The Environmental Guard (e-guard), a profit-oriented business enterprise was formed on May 9, 2009 for providing household garbage collection service to the local communities. It provided solid waste management services to local communities at affordable rates.
In 2012 UN-HABITAT joined the party, and in their collaboration the waste collection system was replicated in six major cities of Pakistan.
However, in 2013 the issue of proper disposal of solid waste emerged as line companies and government functionaries started raising questions of huge dumps of garbage disposed at the limited landfills in the cities where e-guard was serving. AHKMT kept on striving to address the situation and found out a successful waste addressing model already practiced in Bangladesh. AHKMT reached a land allotment agreement with Jammu and Kashmir Housing Society G-15 in Islamabad in 2013 to replicate this successful South Asian model, Integrated Resource Recovery Centrein Pakistan. In 2014, one such center was established in G-15 in Islamabad where the e-guard had been serving the local community since 2012.
In 2016, one such IRRC was replicated in Sakrand Town which was followed by others in Multi Professional Cooperative Housing Society, Islamabad, IRRC Jinnah Garden,in Islamabad between 2017 and 2018 and IRRC Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2019.
Through e-guard, AHKMT has developed IRRC models in various parts of Pakistan. The IRRC model is being successfully operated by AHKMT for the past 13 Years and it proves it identity as sustainable social enterprise, – the IRRC functions as a vacuum cleaner for the society and in turn provides a cleaner environment to the society and turns trash into cash by converting organic waste into compost.
E-guard provides door-to-door waste collection service in Islamabad, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa successfully and efficiently.
