Dual purpose set ups to process solid waste and provide jobs to local communities<\/strong>
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Integrated Resource Recovery Center (IRRC) is a South Asian Model promoting public, private and community partnership. IRRC is a physical facility where organic waste is scientifically processed and converted into compost (Organic Fertilizer) which makes 10% by weight of the total organic waste used in a cost effective way. It also recovers valuable material from waste and provides livelihood opportunities to poor communities through a decentralized approach.
AHKMT\u2019s Integrated Resource Recovery Centers established across the country in Sakrand, Islamabad and Mardanmanage the waste generated in these cities in a decentralized manner with a focus on source separation of waste through community participation.
IRRC Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa<\/strong>
In 2019, Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM) and Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan MemorialTrust (AHKMT) did a feasibility study for establishment of one of the first IRRC in district Mardan of KhyberPakhtunkhwa (KP) Province. For designing, construction and operationalization of the IRRC in Mardan,financial and technical assistance was provided by Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) Pakistan Office. This project
was operationalized in March 2020. The model aims to demonstrate long-term and sustainable solid wastemanagement solution for the KP province. This model was designed by a group of academic researchers andprofessionals from National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IRRC Sakrand, Sindh<\/strong>
Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Trust signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sakrand Town Committee for bringing improvement in solid waste management in 10 Wards in Sakrand town in January 2017 and in till 2020 started work on IRRC in the locality on land provided by the Town Committee which catered to the needs of around 10,000 households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IRRC G-15, Islamabad<\/strong>
In Jammu & Kashmir Cooperative Housing Society (JKCHS) in Sector G-15, Dr Akhtar Hameed Hameed Khan Memorial Trust set up an IRRC in 2015 where the facility catered to the needs of around 3,000 households and yielded around 275 kilograms of compost through management of 3 tons of garbage.
IRRC Jinnah Garden, Islamabad
In FECHS-Jinnah Garden, a Cooperative Housing Society along Islamabad Highway and between Naval Anchorage and Gulberg Green, AHKMT set up an IRRC at 2 kanalsof land provided by the society where IRRC and its team have been handling around 5 tons of waste on daily basis making thelives of the society residents quite easy.
IRRC B-17, MPCHS, Islamabad<\/strong>
In the Multi Professional Cooperative Housing Society (MPCHS), a one of its kind housing societies of the federal capital, AHKMT set up an IRRC on 5 kanalland in 2018 which was launched in 2020 catering to the needs of around 4,000 households and handling the capacity of 3 tons garbage. The 5-kanal IRRC has 12 composting boxes, four maturing boxes and a proper rainwater harvesting system. A proper office for staff, storeroom, workers washrooms and parking lots for vehicles are present on the premises of the IRRC. The project has incurred a cost of Rs11 million and the construction work has been finished within a span of one and half years. AHKMT with the collaboration of e-guard has been given the task of running the project for three years and after making it sustainable, the IRRC will be handed over to the management of MPCHS.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
